Frequently Asked Questions
Which countries accept the Duolingo English Test for study visas?
DET is widely accepted for university admissions across the USA, UK, Ireland, and by select Canadian and European institutions. Always verify whether both your target university and the respective embassy visa stream accept DET for your specific intake.
Why do some students get their DET test results canceled?
The Duolingo test employs strict AI and human proctoring: looking away from the screen, background noise, unauthorized software, or poor lighting can trigger test invalidation. AKME trains students under strict webcam protocols in our Patiala lab.
What is the scoring scale of the Duolingo English Test?
DET is scored on a scale from 10 to 160 in 5-point increments, alongside four subscores: Literacy, Comprehension, Conversation, and Production. A score of 105–120 is generally comparable to an IELTS 6.0–6.5.
How long does the DET exam take and when are results delivered?
The test takes approximately 1 hour to complete on a computer, and certified results are delivered within 48 hours (with an optional faster upgrade available directly from Duolingo).
What is the Writing Sample and Speaking Sample section at the end of DET?
The final 10 minutes include a timed Speaking Sample (1–3 minutes) and Writing Sample (3–5 minutes) that are both graded and shared directly with the admissions committee of the universities you apply to.
How long is the Duolingo preparation course at AKME Patiala?
Most candidates complete our focused DET preparation program in 2 to 4 weeks, including daily adaptive question drills, interactive reading practice, and proctored full-length mock tests.
